Presented by MATT HOPPER. TRACK 1- Freak waterspout at Selsey. Mrs HILARY COOPER describes to ZELDA BLAKEY the damage to her house at Ruskin Close. Many villagers evacuated to Parish Hall. ALISON HOLT reports on exercise to test ability of firemen and lifeboat crews to deal with staged explosion on MV Golden Eye, and rescue of injured men. Fire Chief, MALCOLM EASTWOOD, interviewed. TRACK 2- PETE WARDMAN interviews PAUL HUMPHRIES of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, describes how he and Andy McClusky get their ideas from jazz, reggae and African music. Group plans World tour. Sings Forever Live and Die. TRACK 3- CHRIS RIDER reviews the week’s news and sport. NEWS: 2 drug smugglers, Karti and Panjani, respectively sentenced to 6 and 9 years imprisonment. Caught by IOW Customs Officers when, through navigational error, their chartered boat strayed into British territorial waters. MARK BISHOP reports. JIM GIBBONS reports on bizarre deaths of 2 Winchester Prison officers on same day. Norma Burton killed in a road accident whilst on the way to scene of another fatal motor accident to colleague Eric Foxworthy. PHIL HORNSBY interviewed regarding allegations of brutality against inmates of Haslar Youth Detention Centre. Allegations refuted. GUY PHILLIPS reports on official opening by the Queen of new Nightingale, wing at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester. SPORT: Pompey beats Grimsby 2-1. Mariner scored for Portsmouth. Interviewed. Pompey beats Sheffield Wednesday 1-0. ALAN BALL interviewed by HOWARD BOUCHER Saints beat Hull 2-1. Basketball - Portsmouth win over Solent Stars by 32 points. LLOYD interviewed. TRACK 4- JEAN PAUL HANSFORD interviews DENIS HALL, Director of Southampton’s new Mayflower Theatre. HALL describes how old Gaumont cinema completely refurbished. Opening 24 February 1987 with pantomine Peter Pan, starring BONNIE LANGFORD. Aim to raise 1 million pounds over next 4 years in sponsorship and donations. JIM HICKS interviews BONNIE LANGFORD, currently appearing at King’s Theatre, Southsea in Peter Pan. LANGFORD enjoys playing a boy’s part. Describes childhood as quite normal despite frequent theatrical involvement. Despite appearing as assistant to Dr Who she dislikes health foods. TRACK 5- Berlin, group sing You take my Breath Away, this week’s network no 1 for the 3rd week running. Can they make it to the 4th week? JEAN PAUL HANSFORD interviews GEOFF FRANCIS in IOW about his What - No Meat! week. Aim is to get sponsors for participants to raise 50,000 pounds for Sri Lanka to encourage Third World countries to grow crops for human consumption rather than for animal feed. FRANCIS claims that 90 percent of crops produced in the UK go to feed animals for meat. [Box 7]
