- A British Midland Boeing 737 has crashed onto the embankment of the M1 motorway near Kegworth in Leicestershire as it attempted to make an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport with one of its engines ablaze. Aviation safety expert Chris Lockwood, of Airline World magazine, on the twin-engined plane having being designed to land safely with one engine, and on the reliability of the engines and the good track record of the 737 aircraft.
