- Description
- Interview with UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on Channel 4 News (04/01/84). She explains that she has been trying to secure an expanded role for the United Nations forces. On a visit to New York, she spoke to Secretary-General of the UN, Javier Perez de Cuellar about it. She says they need to make alternative arrangements, especially in the Beirut area, but British troops cannot be recalled as this will leave a vacuum. She also says that unless the money owed by the economic community is paid to Britain she will have to take steps to safeguard the Government’s position. She feels that French President Francois Mitterrand will pay as promised in Stuttgart. The interviewer is Alastair Burnet.
