US President Ronald Reagan announces his candidacy for the 1984 presidential election. During the past year, he says, inflation has dropped, interest rates have been cut nearly in half, homes have been built and sold and four million people have found jobs. Over the last three years, he and his wife Nancy feel, the American people have acted (in the words of Dr Joseph Warren, former President of the Massachusetts Congress) worthy of themselves.
