Description

Andrew Manderstam reports on a televised debate between the eight Democratic candidates for the US presidential elections. In the run-up to the presidential elections, it is expected that President Ronald Reagan will stand and that this will be announced on 29/01/85. Former president Jimmy Carter’s number two, Walter Mondale, poses the most serious challenge on the Democratic side. Senator Alan Cranston is the candidate most committed to a nuclear freeze. Former astronaut, Senator John Glenn feels that more effective negotiation with the Soviets is needed. Walter Mondale reminds the audience that he was the first candidate to favour a nuclear freeze. The Reverend Jesse Jackson says more ethnic minorities should be persuaded to go to the polls.
