- Description
- John Draper reports on the Sunday Times dispute, which stems from the reorganisation of the library. Library staff have traditionally been members of the clerical section of the print union SOGAT (Society of Graphical and Allied Trades) ‘82. The problem arose when the management wanted to appoint a senior library officer who was a member of the supervisory section of SOGAT, and several weeks of talks failed to resolve the row. 750 SOGAT workers from the library and the machine room were sacked for not working normally. Sunday Times editor Andrew Neil gave the workers the news about the strike disruption. Leader of the journalists’ union at the Sunday Times, Peter Wilby explains their feelings. Martin High, a SOGAT father of chapel, says they are waiting for management to make their move.
