Des Fahy interviews Transport Secretary John MacGregor on the Railways Bill, which sets out government proposals for the privatisation of the railways. He claims offering franchises to private operators will improve passengers services and not affect trains running on time or increase fares. Also confirms government subsidies will continue for lines where there is a monopoly situtation and for commuter and rural services as a protection against closures.
