- Prime Minister John Major has been telling the first-ever summit session of the UN Security Council that it should strengthen its resolve to deal with all threats to peace and world security. Major himself convened the summit, to discuss the plight of the former Soviet states. 15 heads of state attended, including US President George Bush and Russian President Boris Yeltsin. Major says the world is facing a time of momentous change and the UN needs to reaffirm its commitment to averting crises and preserving peace.
