Richard Bestic interviews Liberal Party leader David Steel following the victory in a vote for a merger with the SDP at his party’s special conference yesterday in Blackpool. After 9 hours of debate 84 percent voted in favour (2 thirds was required level). The SDP will meet next weekend to make their decision. Steel looks forward to the new party and back at the old one whilst evading a question on the leadership.
