Description
Andrew Manderstam reports on US President Ronald Reagan’s decision not to attend Soviet leader Yuri Andropov’s funeral. Reagan is ending a holiday at his ranch near Santa Barbara in California and is due to return to Washington tomorrow. His political advisers urged him to fly to Moscow as a conciliatory move, but it was decided that Vice-President George Bush would go instead. Former US Secretary of State, General Alexander Haig says the decision is the right one. US Secretary of State, George Shultz hopes the two sides can resume talks on arms control soon.
