- Description
- Report on the Stockholm Conference. US Secretary of State, George Shultz gives a press conference in London. Shultz remains cautious because he does not want to prejudice US President Ronald Reagan’s speech in the afternoon; he also does not know what reaction there will be from Andrei Gromyko, Soviet Minister for Foreign Affairs. It has been suggested to Shultz that the meeting between the two super powers had been arranged to try and help Reagan’s re-election campaign. Shultz discusses the situation in the Middle East, and the involvement in talks of the PLO. He is also asked about the new Soviet initiative on chemical weapons and their prohibition in Europe. Shultz says chemical weapons need to be banned everywhere. Male reporter not identified (forename poss. Paul). Short break in audio towards end of clip.
