Nationalist parties in the North of Ireland have condemned UK Prime Minister John Major’s interpretation of Senator George Mitchell’s report on ways to get the peace process started. Sinn Fein say the Prime Minister has ignored the Mitchell proposals for a phased de-commissioning of arms, after all-party talks have begun. Deputy Leader of the SDLP, Seamus Mallon accuses Major of reneging on Downing Street talks held with John Bruton last November, and claims that he (Major) has not accepted the Mitchell Report.
