Description

David Ennals, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, on the benefits of the new state pension scheme. He explains that everyone will retire with two pensions; one will be their basic pension and one will either be an earnings-related pension from the state or a similar benefit from their existing occupational pension scheme. Both will be protected from inflation and the basic pension will ensure that pensioners share in rising living standards. This will result in pensions being higher but in some people paying increased contributions before they retire. Male interviewer not identified.
