Description
The Government’s rail privatisation programme has suffered an embarrassing hitch. The transfer of one of three lines to the private sector this morning has been halted because of fraud allegations. A director of the London-Tilbury-Southend line has resigned, and Labour is calling for a police investigation. Transport Minister John Watts denies it’s a serious setback, and maintains it was a sensible course of action.
