The law lords had ruled in favour of the action with the support of Tony’s parents. On the threat of a private prosecution against him for murder by pro-life activists; extensive legal and ethical discussion prior to taking the action; ethical dilemmas brought by advances in medical technology; the relief of Tony’s parents and staff following his death.
