- The ordination of women into the priesthood has split the Church of England with the defection of many - such as the Environment Secretary John Gummer - to Catholicism. Today thirty-two women will be the first to be ordained, at Bristol Cathedral. With reaction from the Bishop of Bristol, the Right Reverend Barry Rogerson; aspiring Vicar Susan Ship; and Chaplain of Bristol University Angela Berners-Wilson, who will be first to be ordained.
