Description
Eamonn Mallie reports on a debate in the The Dail (Irish Parliament), where the Taoiseach launched a stinging attack on British policy in Northern Ireland regarding the crisis over the shoot-to-kill affair. Charles Haughey vowed to continue cross-border cooperation to defeat terrorism but he made no secret of his serious concern at the way John Stalker’s inquiry into policing in the province had been handled by the UK Government. He also threatened to pull out of the new extradition treaty with London if the British refused to abide by Irish laws when they tried to obtain the extradition of suspects. Haughey was opening a two-day debate on Anglo-Irish relations in Dublin. Includes speeches by Charles Haughey and opposition Fine Gael leader, Alan Dukes.
