Norman Beebe reports on the space race, which the United States entered 20 years ago today with the launch of its first satellite into orbit. Recently, the Soviets’ Cosmos 954 was powered by a nuclear reactor and in view of general concerns about this, President Carter spoke at a news conference yesterday about the need for better safeguards.
