- Ken Dennis(?) reports on the trial of Tom Keating. Geraldine Norman, auction correspondent of the Times, exposed Keating who was copying old masters’ paintings. Keating was charged along with with antiques dealer Lionel Evans; they denied deception and conspiracy, although his mistress Jane Kelly admitted five cases of deception. The trial was halted and the jury dismissed because of Keating’s ill health. All charges were dropped against Keating; Evans pleaded guilty to a charge of deception and received a six-month suspended sentence; Jane Kelly received an 18-month suspended sentence.
