Scientist Dr Alan Johnstone on the European satellite, Giotto, damage to which has affected its mission to Halley’s Comet. Johnstone describes the damage, after which only three of ten experiments were left working fully, and, although pleased with the data received so far, agrees that the satellite is in the celestial scrapyard.
