Paul Rowley interviews Labour MP, Tony Benn, prior to an inquest into why the Party lost the 1992 General Election. A report to its ruling National Executive suggests the public distrusted the Party because it was wedded to the past and held back ambitious voters. The dossier compiled by General Secretary Larry Whitty also concludes that its campaign - particularly its showbiz-style rally in Sheffield - was a mistake. However Benn says the Party lost because of its policies and because the leadership failed to provide a distinct alternative to the Conservatives.
