- Speaking at the World Ministerial Drugs Summit at London’s Queen Elizabeth II Hall, UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher announced the formation of a taskforce to tackle the growing menace of illicit drugs worldwide, focusing on reducing demand for drugs, and the need to prevent production, trafficking and dealing. President Virgilio Barco Vegas of Columbia was there, as Thatcher pledged 3.5 million pounds to help curb the illegal cultivation and trafficking of cocaine, stressing the damage to the rainforest. James Matthews reports.
