Description

Archbishop of Canterbury, Robert Runcie comments on the awful conditions in Britain’s prisons, promoting their modernisation. He says control is more effective when there is the possibility of more movement and humane conditions, and that justice and retribution are not incompatible with mercy and need not diminish people’s humanity. He also comments on the high re-imprisonment rate, the size of prison populations in general, and the recent prison riots. Male interviewer not identified.
