- Description
- Home Secretary Douglas Hurd has called for an inquiry into rioting at Risley Remand Centre. Over fifty prisoners are still protesting on the roof following violence over the bank holiday. Inmates are complaining about conditions at the centre, which have been frequently criticised, leading to the prison being dubbed, Grizzley Risley. Prisons Minister Douglas Hogg says the Government accepts some of the criticism and has begun improvements, but the riot has now wrecked much of that work. Interviewer not identified (poss. Peter Murphy).
