Description
Scotland Yard is considering a scheme to launch an alternative civic volunteer force in London. It would be an alternative to the New York vigilante Guardian Angels, who patrolled the subway earlier in the year. The new group, nicknamed the Blue Angels, would have closer ties with police and would be more accountable than the Guardian Angels. News of the pilot scheme was announced at the launch of the Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s annual report. In it, Sir Peter Imbert said that police and public working in partnership are winning the war against crime in the capital. He says the results of that partnership can be seen in all sorts of ways. (Scottish) female interviewer not identified (poss. Margaret Shiels).
