Description

John Alcock reports on a news conference held by Andrei Sakharov (with excerpts), a leading Soviet dissident who was released from internal exile 2 years ago. He backed Mikhail Gorbachev’s perestroika reform policy but called for the release of all political prisoners. He also welcomed the Government’s call for a new international human rights conference in Moscow, but says it shouldn’t start until all Soviet troops had pulled out of Afghanistan.
