Report on the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the contraceptive pill. Dilys Cossey of the Family Planning Association describes the features of the pill. Dr Clifford Kay, Director of the Royal College of General Practitioners, talks about the possibility of contracting breast cancer as a result of taking the pill, as weighed against the pill’s protective effect against ovarian cancer. Dr Colin Frankham(?) claims the pill has resulted in fewer teenage pregnancies, and does not lead to increased promiscuity. Professor Dennis Lincoln discusses the male pill, and says its popularity will not overtake that of the female version. Clayre Gribben reports.
