Description
Washington correspondent Simon Marks reports on reaction in America to the IRA’s decision to call a ceasefire in Northern Ireland. Leading republican Joe Cahill is in New York holding closed door sessions with fundraisers in the US. Meanwhile Irish Tanaiste (deputy prime minister) Dick Spring is heading to the US for a meeting with President Bill Clinton who has made a statement hailing the ceasefire. The President is hinting he’ll offer financial aid to help develop Northern Ireland once a peace agreement is in place.
