- Description
- Tens of thousands of Muslims will take to the streets of London tomorrow for a massive demonstration against the controversial Salman Rushdie novel, The Satanic Verses. Muslims believe the book is blasphemous and insulting to Islam, and are calling for the Government to change the blasphemy laws to cover all religions. Rushdie himself is still in hiding following death threats from Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini in February. Sher Azam, President of the Bradford Council for Mosques, says feelings among the Muslim community are still running high, and claims tomorrow will see the biggest demonstration ever held in London. Female interviewer (for Pennine Radio) not identified.
