Britain’s senior EC commissioner Sir Leon Brittan speaks to John Fraser about the split in Europe over the Maastricht Treaty after Denmark’s referendum rejected it. A paper to resolve the differences by amending the treaty is being discussed in Brussels today. Right-wing democratic Christian leaders such as Germany’s Chancellor Kohl have objected to the number of concessions the amendment allows Denmark and threatened to go ahead without Britain or Denmark.
