- Description
- Fighting is reported to have broken out between military units in China, as the country slides deeper into crisis. Witnesses say soldiers have been involved in a serious clash at an air force base South of Beijing. Other reports speak of heavy artillery fire north of the city. More than eighty British students and dons are taking sanctuary in the British Embassy amid fears that troops will invade the city’s university campus. Embassy spokesman Laurence Bristow-Smith is warning British visitors to flee the country as fast as they can. John Alcock is the interviewer.
