Description
Angela Rippon interviews John Bartell, chairman of the Prison Officers Association, about the escape of two IRA suspects, Pearse McAuley and Nessan Quinlivan, from Brixton maximum security jail. They were being held on terrorist charges and being escorted from a chapel service at the jail when they pulled out a gun and took prison officers hostage. They then shot and wounded a passing motorist, and hijacked his car. Bartell lays the blame for the incident on the Government for underfunding the UK prison service.
