- Description
- London Underground is set to increase its fares in a bid to reduce the number of people using the system, and stop trains and stations becoming dangerously overcrowded. London Underground Ltd. (LUL) Chairman Wilfrid Newton says tube congestion during weekday peak periods has reached the maximum level that can be safely tolerated at certain stations. But a leading rail expert says people will take to the roads, and that will mean a rise in deaths because travelling by road is more dangerous than going by tube. Margaret Shiels reports.
