- The Court of Appeal has refused to grant an injunction to British Rail to stop 24 hour strikes on the railways. BR spokesman Paul Watkinson says the company will get together with the NUR to solve the problems; Margaret Thatcher speaking in the Commons says the strikers are selfish; NUR General Secretary Jimmy Knapp is pleased with the court’s decision but saddened at having to strike.
