Description
Report on the death penalty in Jamaica and other Commonwealth countries. Two Jamaican men sentenced to death have been granted a reprieve. A committee of seven Law Lords at the Privy Council in London ruled that execution in their cases would amount to inhuman punishment, given the delay in carrying out the sentence. Solicitor for the two men, Saul Lefraund(?) expresses delight at the decision to remove the men from death row, and says the case will lead to a review of other death row prisoners’ sentences. Carol Orr reports.
