- Description
- Report on the new railways bill, which has been defeated in the House of Lords. There is uproar in the Commons, and Deputy Speaker, Geoffrey Lofthouse, struggles to make himself heard. Transport Secretary, John MacGregor explains the amendments (which now need to be reversed), but meets opposition from Shadow Transport Secretary, John Prescott, who says the amendments are a farce, and that the issue being debated is the credibility of the Government. Des Fahy reports.
