- Description
- Iranian sources say Britain has asked for permission to send a diplomat to Tehran this week after a year without direct consular representation following a British diplomat being kidnapped and beaten up. It’s seen as a big step forward in improved relations and raises the hopes of families of hostages held by Iranian backed gunmen in Beirut. UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher welcomes Iran’s acceptance of the UN resolution which should end the Iran-Iraq War. John Cookson reports.
