- Description
- Police in New York say they expect to charge someone with a crime punishable with the death penalty in the next few days, after capital punishment was this week reintroduced to the state. It comes three decades since the last state execution. The man behind the reintroduction is newly-elected Governor George Pataki, who promised voters that criminals would pay the ultimate price in a bid to cut the murder rate and save money. But, as Catherine Drew reports from Washington, not everyone is convinced.
