- Following the death of Regimental Sergeant Major Michael Heakin, his father Richard Heakin calls for the scrapping of UK forces car number plates. Michael Heakin had been identified by such plates and shot dead in Ostend, Belgium. Labour defence spokesman Martin O’Neill and an unidentified male soldier comment. Mark Percy reports.
