John Greenwood interviews Liberal MP Cyril Smith about the verdict in the trial at the Old Bailey in London of former Liberal Party leader Jeremy Thorpe and co-defendants, David Holmes, 49; South Wales businessman John Le Mesurier, 46, and nightclub owner George Deakin, 39. They were acquitted of comspiring to save Thorpe’s political career by murdering male model, Nicholas Scott, after he claimed Thorpe to be his homosexual lover. Telephone interview.
