- Report on the death of two young joyriders, 21 year-old Colin Atkins and his friend Dale Robson. Chief Constable Sir Stanley Bailey says there is evidence to show the Police were not at fault. The incident sparked riots in parts of Newcastle; Linda Duffed, a local resident, witnessed youths being driven in from outlying areas to take part. The Reverend Nigel Stark reads a statement on behalf of the boys’ parents, appealing for an end to the violence. Philip Vine reports. Broadcast on Metro Radio.
