- A state of alert has been declared in Mexico as Hurricane Gilbert approaches. In Texas, the National Guard has been placed on stand-by and those living in low-lying homes evacuated â includes vox pop with residents escaping the hurricane. In Jamaica, half a million people have been left homeless from the hurricane and holidaymakers Bob and Carol Redwood from London recall the devastation and say that there has been widespread looting.
