Sally Arthy reports on the conclusion of the Conservative Party conference in Bournemouth with a wide-ranging speech by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher (excerpts heard) which included a tribute to Ian Gow – the Conservative MP who was assassinated by the IRA in July 1990; a pop at Neil Kinnock and the Liberal Democrats; and reference to inflation, education, crime, Saddam Hussein and the Gulf War. She finished with a promise to keep Britain independent and uphold the principles of freedom.
