- Description
- The Conservative commitment to marriage and the family has led to another Government bill being shelved. This time moves to protect victims of domestic violence have been put on hold after a protest from a number of backbenchers, but the Lord Chancellor Lord James Mackay (Derry Irvine) says the bill may still be heard during the next session of Parliament. The MP’s complained that a part of the bill would undermine the sanctity of marriage, the part that gave unmarried couples the same rights as those legally bound together. Our reporter Dominic Waghorn has been talking to some of the people the bill was designed to help.
