Peter Spencer reports from the Social and Liberal Democrats conference in Brighton where Lord Jenkins (formerly Roy Jenkins), the founding father of the SDP and now leader of the SLD in the House of Lords, gave a speech where he said the actions of the warring factions in the party who have been criticising the name and sniping at the leadership were suicidal. Lord Jenkins believes the party can only revive its fortunes if it keeps its discipline. Includes excerpts from Lord Jenkins’ speech.
