- Margaret Shiels reports on the case of a man who shot himself after being surrounded by armed police officers on the roof of a garage in Kendray, Barnsley. Police had traced the man to the building at the end of a nationwide hunt for the killer of Inspector Raymond Codling, who was killed with a handgun at the Birch service area on the M62 (14/09/89). His colleague Sergeant James Bowden was also shot and needed emergency surgery. The dead man was later named as Anthony Hughes. Includes statements by James Anderton, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police; unidentified male speaker (poss. David Walsh â teacher); Superintendent Terry Swann (female interviewer not identified).
