Almost the entirety of President Mikhail Gorbachev’s resignation speech, with the voice of an interpreter, as the Soviet Union breaks up and is replaced by the Commonwealth of Independent States. Gorbachev lists the achievements of his term in office, including introducing democratic reform, social freedom, human rights and free enterprise to the Soviet Union, and bringing about international change. Reflects on a new world order with the end of the Cold War and removal of the nuclear threat and on his hopes and concerns for the future.
