- Description
- Peter Russell reports from the United Nations in Geneva where the United States, in a major policy change, has decided to open direct talks with the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) in an effort to work out a peace formula for the region. President Reagan announced the move just hours after a speech made by PLO leader Yasser Arafat, in which he said the PLO recognised Israel’s right to exist, renounced terrorism and endorsed UN Resolutions 242 and 338. Includes excerpt from Arafat speech.
