- Bomb shelter signs and gas masks have been issued to Iraqis in anticipation of war in the Gulf. In Kuwait, the US has withdrawn its staff from its embassy. US Ambassador Nathaniel Howell and four diplomats flew to Baghdad en route to America. Larry Brown, who spent four months locked in the US Embassy, tells how he survived. 500 Americans remain in Kuwait, while 50 Britons remain against official advice. Britain’s Ambassador to Iraq, Harold Walker says they have only themselves to blame if their safety is in jeopardy. James Matthews reports from Baghdad for LBC News.
