- Description
- African National Congress leader Oliver Tambo returns to South Africa after thirty-one years in exile in the UK. ANC deputy leader Nelson Mandela and wife Winnie were allowed onto the tarmac to greet Tambo. ANC military chief Chris Harney denies reports of Tambo taking a step back from leadership after suffering a stroke. Tambo’s son, Dali Tambo, says he’s glad his father is back on South African soil. David O’Sullivan reports, almost drowned out by the singing and cheering of the crowd.
